Fear

Fear can make us do crazy things. It can also make us not want to do things as well. Fear can cause us to worry about things we have no control over, and it can make us fear the future. It can even make us fear what God has called us to do.

Me and Nicole were talking about fear and doubt last night. Before we knew it we had spent an hour and a half talking and reading the bible. It was an amazing time! God took us through many verses in the bible, and showed us some miraculous things. One in particular I want to share.

Jesus was sent to earth as God, but as God in a man. Jesus still had flesh just as we did. I never thought Jesus got afraid about anything until we came across Mark 14, where Jesus was praying to God in the Garden of Gethsemane. To rewind, oh back to about Genesis 3, Jesus already knew that what he was about to do is what God had planned since the Fall. In case you never have noticed it, here is the verse in Genesis 3:14,15;

14 So the LORD God said to the serpent: “ Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her
Seed;
He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

But in the garden as Jesus is praying to God, he says in Mark 14:36;

36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You.
Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

Abba (Daddy), Take this cup away from Me. Jesus is scared. He doesn't want to do this. But, He knows the will of God is not his will, that's why he asked God to take this cup away from him.

Maybe it would be easier to understand if put this way.

Picture Jesus in the garden, on his knees. Crying tears of blood, and then him saying this;

Daddy. Father. You.....You can get me out of this. I am scared of what I am about to suffer. But Daddy, take this cup from me, for if my will be done, I would not go through with it. But, Your will is not mine. So again, please take this cup from me so that Your will be done.

When I realized what Jesus was praying here, all I could say was wow.

We are all called by God to do things in life. God has plans for us all. Maybe it is leading a small group at church, going on a mission trip, volunteering or giving when times are hard. Fear can set in at these points in your life. We start to doubt, is this what God is really calling me to do? If it is what God is asking me to do, then why do I fear?

Plain and simple. Fear is a condition of the flesh, fear is sin. What scares us is radical obedience to God. Relying on God's understanding, and not our own. Jeremiah 29:11 says;

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

There is our assurance! Take this verse and apply it to your daily life. Live for God in a radical way, because he already has plans for you. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

God said he will never give us more than we can handle, but He will break you. He will bring you to your knees, to the point where your only option is to call on Him.
